Definition
Under Nevada law, a Hit and Run occurs when a driver involved in an accident where there is property damage, injury, or a loss of life fails to fails to stop and provide their information to the other parties involved or a police officer, and to render aid.
NRS 484E.010 Duty to stop at scene of crash involving death or personal injury; penalty.
NRS 484E.020 Duty to stop at scene of crash involving damage to vehicle or property; duty to move vehicle under certain circumstances; penalty. [Effective January 1, 2023.]
NRS 484E.030 Duty to give information and render aid; report if no police officer present; penalty. [Effective January 1, 2023.]
Penalties
Hit and Run can result in a misdemeanor OR felony charges depending on the extent of the injuries sustained by other parties involved. If you are caught committing a hit and run in the state of Nevada, the penalties can include fines of up to $5,000 and imprisonment for up to ten years. Additionally, your driver’s license may be revoked, and you may be required to attend driver education programs at your own expense. Repeated offenses can lead to even steeper fines and even lengthier prison sentences.
